Operational Medicine Mark II

Operational Medicine 2001 (Enhanced)

Produced by the US Navy and US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in 2001, this collection of text, textbooks, pictures, 31 videos and other reference materials give “how-to-do-it” guidance in providing medical care in military and other isolated areas.

Includes graphic and video demonstrations of wound care, minor orthopedic procedures, emergency airway management, and routine “Sick Call.” Shows chest tube insertion and tourniquet use. This classical text has been enhanced by the Brookside Associates with a powerful search engine, making it easy to find key words within the text.

Military Obstetrics & Gynecology

This collection of text, pictures, videos lectures and other reference materials give “how-to-do-it” guidance in providing women’s health care in military and isolated settings.

Basic instructions on exams, Pap smears, and contraception, are provided, in addition to solutions to the common gynecologic problems of vaginal infections, diseases of the vulva and abnormal bleeding. Videos show childbirth and pictures demonstrate the management of common obstetrical problems. Comes with a 395-page manual, a pharmacy, laboratory, and ultrasound atlas.

Advanced Combat Trauma Life Support

Advanced Combat Trauma Life Support provides simulation training based on the ATLS training model.

Simulating typical field hospital and combat conditions, the training videos show five variations of a penetrating thoracic missile wound. The scenarios provide experience in clinical decision making through simulations of increasingly difficult emergency cases.

IV Therapy

This downloadable video was first produced in 1993 by the U.S. Army. It has been reformatted and digitalized for internet distribution by the Brookside Associates Medical Education Division.

"Initiate an Intravenous Infusion in a Field Environment" was originally produced by the U.S. Army in 1995. It has been reformatted and edited for digital use by the Brookside Associates Medical Education Division.
 

Apply a Tourniquet
This downloadable video was first produced in 1978 by the U.S. Army. It has been reformatted and digitalized for internet distribution by the Brookside Associates Medical Education Division.

   

Dental Emergencies

This program offers refresher training for Independent Duty Corpsmen, Nuclear Medical Technicians, and Advanced Hospital Corpsmen.

The "Learn" section contains five categories of dental emergencies. It covers dental Trauma, Post-surgical extraction emergencies, Endodontic and Periodontic Conditions, and Oral Ulcerations.

The "Reference" section includes four parts: Dental Conditions, Diagnostic Procedures, Treatment Procedures, and Dental Instruments.

"Challenges" includes four games, with exercises on History, Diagnostic Challenge, Visual Comparison, and Diagnosis and Treatment with instructions for each exercise.

Surgical Emergencies in Obstetrics & Gynecology 
Produced by the US Navy in 1993, this manual was designed to provide good advice to surgeons who treat women with gynecologic problems in isolated settings where gynecologic consultation is not readily available.

The need for gynecologic surgery may arise in isolated settings, or during military operations when consultation is restricted and medical support limited. At such times, surgeons of varying experience and training may be required to perform gynecologic surgery.

Produced by the US Army in 2004, this outstanding textbook addresses the appropriate medical management of such typical military wounds as blast injuries, burns and multiple penetrating injuries. It also guides the treatment of other battle and non-battle injuries.

5-Minute Hymenotomy Video

Among the causes of painful intercourse is an incompletely ruptured hymen. A simple office procedure, hymenotomy, usually solves this problem.

This 5-minute video uses models and live patients to demonstrate the problem of incompletely ruptured hymen and the surgical procedure to correct it.

Illustrated is the use of anesthetic and surgical techniques to minimize bleeding and avoid a prolonged recovery.

5-Minute Episiotomy Video

This video shows the making of an episiotomy to facilitate a normal vaginal delivery of a baby.

Following delivery, the episiotomy is closed using sutures and a standard technique.
