Vision loss
Transient
- Definition: return of
vision in 24 hours usually within one hour
- Differential diagnosis:
- Most common migraine
- Contact lens displacement
- Less common Cloaucoma, central retinal vein occlusion, ischemic
optic neuropathy, CNS lesion, optis disc drusen
Complete
- Definition:
greater than 24 hours
- Differential diagnosis
- Sudden: (painless) Most common: Vitreous
hemorrhage, retinal detachment, optic neuritis,
central retinal vein and artery occlusion
- Gradual: (painless) Most common: cataract,
refractive error, glaucoma, diabetes. Less common: corneal
disease, solar retinopathy
- Painful loss of vision: Acute angle closure glaucoma, uveitis,
and retro bulbar optic neuritis
