Description:

  • Antivertigo agent, antihistamine

Indications:

  • Motion sickness

  • “Possibly effective” in vertigo associated with diseases affecting vestibular system

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category B; used for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy

  • Children <12 years

  • Glaucoma, obstructive GI and GU disease

  • Prostatic hypertrophy

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • CNS: drowsiness, excitation (paradoxical reaction in children), restlessness

  • CV: hypotension, palpitations, tachycardia

  • EENT: blurred vision, diplopia, dry nose, dry throat

  • GI: anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting

  • GU: difficult urination, urinary frequency, urinary retension

  • SKIN: rash urticaria

 

Dosage:

Administered orally (tablet, chewable tablet)

  • Adult and Child >12 years:  

    • Motion sickness: PO 25-50mg 1 hour prior to travel; may repeat daily for duration of journey

    • Vertigo: PO 25-100mg daily in divided doses, usually 3 times daily
