  • Antifungal

  Indications:

  • Systemic Candidiasis

  • Mucocutaneous Candidiasis

  • Oral Candidiasis (thrush)

  • Tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea versicolor

  • Severe recalcitrant cutaneous dermatophytic infections non-responsive to griseofulvin or other antifungals

  Contraindications:

  • Not used for fungal menigitis

Precautions:

  • Pregnancy category C

  • Requires acidic pH for absorption, therefore do not take with antacids.

  • Take with food to increase absorption and decrease GI adverse effects.

  • Notify healthcare provider is patient experiences anorexia, fatigue, jaundice, darkened urine or pale stools, due to possible liver dysfunction.

  • Concomitant use with alcohol may lead to a disulfiram-like reaction.

  Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • Nausea and vomiting (3-10%)

  • Severe irritation with topical application

 

Dosage:

Administered as an oral tablet, suspension or topical cream

Adult

  • 200-400mg once a day

Children (> 2 years old):

  • 3.3-6.6 mg/kg/day as a single daily dose

Topical:

  • Apply once or twice a day to affected area and immediate surrounding areas for 14 days.
