Triglycerides are fat.
Triglycerides are often elevated in the same circumstances in which
cholesterol levels are elevated, and with the same significance: increased
risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease.
Triglycerides may also be elevated in:
- Liver disease
- Endocrine disease
- Nephrotic syndrome
- Diabetes
- Pancreatitis
Triglycerides may be decreased in:
- Malnutrition
- Hyperthyroidism
- COPD
- Brain infarction
