Category:

  • Antihistamine

Description:

  • Histamine H1 Antagonist

Indications:

  • Symptoms related to common cold, hay fever or allergy.

Contraindications:

  • Asthma
  • Glaucoma
  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Seizures
  • Ulcers,
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Urinary retention

Precautions:

  • Patients may experience CNS effects of drowsiness and dizziness, therefore use caution with motor vehicle operation or other hazardous tasks.

  • Pregnancy Category B

Adverse Reactions (Side Effects):

  • Sedation

  • Dizziness

  • Drowsiness

  • Mood changes

  • Tinitus

Dosage:

Administered PO

Adult :

  • Regular release tabs and liquid, 4 mg Q 6-8 hours.

  • Sustained release tabs, 8-12 mg BID

  • Maximum daily dose: 24 mg

Children:

  • 6-12 years: 8 mg long acting tablet every 12 hours as needed
  • 12 years and older: 12 mg long acting tablet every 12 hours as needed
  • 2-6 years: 1 mg every 4-6 hours, not to exceed 6 mg in 24 hours
  • Don't use under 2 years of age
