Fibrinogen is a serum protein, essential for normal coagulation. Produced
in the liver, it is decreased in chronic liver disease and in the presence
of accelerated coagulopathies, such as DIC.
It is often elevated modestly during pregnancy, following surgery, or
whenever significant inflammation is present anywhere in the body. |
